Diane Schenker's book Expert Terrain, has been published (May 2023) by Word Poetry. It was previously shortlisted by the Harbor Mountain Press MURA Book Award and awarded Honorable Mention by the Concrete Wolf Louis Poetry Book Award. Her poems can be found in The Gettysburg Review, Subtropics, Rhino, Gargoyle, SalonZine and Pen + Brush in Print No. 4, among others. Diane's chapbook, Relation/Couch/Dreaming, was published in 2009 by Finishing Line Press. A sample of her reviews of poetry books include Aracelis Girmay’s Teeth, Slantwise by Betty Adcock and Elaine Sexton’s books Drive and Causeway.
Diane also has extensive experience working in the performing arts. She acted and directed at The Empty Space and various other theaters in Seattle, plus gigs in Anchorage, Santa Fe and New York City. She has directed both plays and opera and staged performances at St. James Cathedral in Seattle including Hildegard of Bingen's Ordo Virtutem. She was a founding faculty member of the Professional Actors Training Program at the Cornish College of the Arts. As a performance artist, Diane was co-creator of the performance piece Jane Smith Jane Smith and wrote and staged Nannerl: A Speculative Morality, both at On the Boards in Seattle.
